Stats Chat on Radio New Zealand National this morning

A warm welcome to everyone who has come by via Radio New Zealand National after Gavin Ellis talked about Stats Chat on the Nine to Noon show this morning.

Gavin Ellis said it’s something “every journalist and member of the public should look at… it really is worthwhile”. Thanks Gavin!

just caught Gavin’s session on Nine To Noon

great to hear of your stats check site and to hear an experienced newsman’s endorsement of it.

If only there really was a decent standard of stats practice in the media – oh yes, same applies to the NZ Police for years of selective, misleading and downright unprofessional stats practice in their public utterances

    Hi
I heard about the comment by Gavin Ellis. I have been so frustrated for so many years by the misinterpretation of statistical reports by journalists. I would require all journalism students to take a first year course in statistics – or at least watch my youtube videos.
You can see them at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD01983098F7E77B7&feature=plcp
You will see the influence of Chris Wild and Maxine Pfannkuch in the video on variation – why statistical methods are needed.
Well done at getting the word out.
